Charles Schwager, CPA

Partner

Charles Schwager was admitted by BPSD as a Partner in 1988, after a college internship in 1981, and starting on a full-time basis in 1982. During his 40-plus-year career, Charles has worked closely with clients of every size and nearly every industry – most extensively in the security and alarm field and entertainment industry.

“I have always had an interest in numbers, sports statistics, and calculations. At a young age, my father had me double-checking change, and manually calculating restaurant checks and tips. In high school, I enrolled in bookkeeping classes, which led to accounting in college — and my future road was paved.”

Over the years, Charles has garnered many accolades for his dedication to state and local organizations in the security and alarm industry. For more than 10 years, he chaired an exceptionally successful annual golf tournament that still provides college scholarship funds for children of fire and life protective services personnel throughout California. In 2013, the California Alarm Association awarded Charles its prestigious “George Weinstock Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Charles has also volunteered in various capacities with several non-profit and charitable organizations. In addition, he has written for industry publications, and served on panels and led seminars on pertinent tax and business topics.

“I believe in being an important part of the lives of my family, friends, and work colleagues. This approach has allowed me to assist the firm’s clients beyond the normal boundaries of our profession, to give back to the community and to be a confidante and advisor to many.”

An avid golfer, Charles has played on courses around the U.S., Australia, New Zealand and Scotland. In addition to coaching young athletes in baseball, Charles played and coached ice hockey for decades. He and his wife, Nancy, are long-time fans and season ticket holders of the Los Angeles Kings. Whenever possible they spend time with their children and grandchildren.
